The Green legacy initiative that started 2019 by the Prime Minister office of Ethiopia has been an annual initiative of planting a tree across Ethiopia during the rainy season to help reduce the effect of climate change and deforestation. On the first campaign of the initiative over 4 billion tree where planted.
Coinciding with World Environment Day Ethiopia Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahimed has launched the second Green legacy initiative on 5th June 2020 that commits to plant 5 billion trees. According to the Green Legacy Initiative steering committee, Ethiopia has so far planted more than 4.1 billion trees out of the intended 5 billion, attaining 83% of the set target for this year.
Ethiopia Convention Bureau has dedicated an initiative to make every delegated that comes to Ethiopia to be part of the ‘’green legacy’’ by planting one tree per delegate.
